Everything You Need to Know about Aerial Refueling

Aerial refueling is typically a military technique that is used to keep planes flying longer and there are several different names that this method goes by such as tanking, air to air refueling, in flirt refueling, and then it can also be called air refueling as well.

This technique is very useful and there are a number of reasons why people use this technique such as improving the loiter time of an aircraft so it can fly around a certain location for a longer time, it can be used to extend the range of the aircraft, and it can be used to simply keep the plane in the sky longer. Aerial refueling can keep planes up in the sky almost forever but there are still some other factors that you will have to keep into mind such as the fatigue of the crew and then some engine issues like oil consumption which has to be replaced like a car. Some other factors to consider when it comes down to aerial refueling is the fact that it will allow planes to carry a heavier load such as more personnel, cargo, and weapons because they do not have to carry as much fuel which can weigh them down when taking off but they can top off while they are already in the sky. This can be used to reduce the distance needed to take off as well and then when they are already in the sky they can refuel. Also believe it or not but aerial refueling can help improve the consumption of fuels being used by planes as well especially when they are flying more than three thousand and five hundred miles.

Aerial refueling can help improve the fuel consumption by around forty percent for flights that are longer distance which is pretty amazing when you think about it because that is almost half a tank of fuel saved.

There are two different kinds of methods used when it comes down to aerial refueling and they are the probe and drogue which is something that can be used to adapt to different kinds of aircraft and then the second method is called the flying boom which is faster but it will need to have a dedicated operator station.

The tankers will typically have a dedicated refueling system or they will be designed for a certain kind of refueling system but different methods can be used if the tanker is using the probe and drogue refueling system. And that is the ins and outs when it comes down to aerial refueling.
