Javelin Thrower Mouths “Help Me” As She Dislocates Her Shoulder Mid-Throw

Australian javelin thrower Kim Mickle was competing in the qualifying rounds of the women's javelin today when she dislocated her right shoulder with her last throw.

Mickle's last attempt was quickly curtailed when she had to clutch her right arm to stop it from swinging during follow-through. The dislocation occurred on the same shoulder the Olympian had surgically reconstructed less than 12 months ago.

“Help me,” mouthed Mickle, as she wandered around the athletics track looking for someone to assist her.

Mickle won the silver medal at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics and was aiming to qualify with her last throw. She is now with a team doctor in a Brazilian hospital assessing her injury.
